Great Horror Campout Coming to State Park

Updated

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - The peaceful tranquility of the Los Angeles State Historic Park will turn into a hellish 12-hour nightmare where overnight campers will be terrorized during the Great Horror Campout.

Inspired by 1980s slasher films, and with a slogan that states “Only the Dawning Sun Will Save You,” the horror adventure is produced by Ten Thirty One Productions, the creators of the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride.

The Historic Park event takes place June 7 and 8 and costs $149 per person. Tickets include a one-night stay in a tent, dinner, breakfast (for those who survive) and parking.

The night will begin at 8 p.m. with horror movies and bonfires for the campers. But as in all good horror movies, things will then get really scary with the main event, a macabre scavenger hunt called the Hell Hunt.

Organizers say the hunt will “bring campers face to face with their worst nightmares.” The hunt will include a sacrificial voodoo ritual, digging through road kill and unlike the Haunted Hay Ride; the Campout performers can, and likely will touch the participants. This means people may be bound, chained and subjected to simulated torture, all for fun of course.

Those who want a milder experience can just stay in their tents after the horror movies and campfires, but they may not be completely safe from the horror, organizers warn.

“Even the campers who want to stay in their tents with friends or hang at the bonfire for the movies will get ruined…just not as ruined as those who think they’re tough enough for the Hell Hunt,” said Melissa Carbone, president of Ten Thirty One Productions in a statement.
